Ok, I've spent ~2 hours looking through Help and FAQ pages for this info, and no one's in the chatroom right now, so I guess this is my last stop. Help me, Fanlore geniuses - you're my only hope!

I originally started editing Fanlore using an OpenID account based on my LJ. But since I don't log into my LJ very often anymore, I went ahead and created a regular account. I assumed that after I did so, there would be a way to merge the two.

Silly me.

So now I have a user page and one set of watchlist/contribs under OpenID, and a second set under my new login. Does anyone have any idea how I get myself out of this mess? I would really rather keep the new login, if possible, especially since I've already contributed under it.

Thank you to anyone who has ideas!

I had a similar problem with my OpenID which I wanted to switch from LJ to DW , especially after the comm opened here for consistency, but I did not know how, and couldn't find anything in the help pages. However then someone told me that you can use the page that says it is to convert your regular login to an OpenID one also to change your OpenID URL:
http://fanlore.org/wiki/Special:OpenIDConvert
So with that you can turn your LJ OpenID account into a DW one. Or convert your new login to a DW OpenID

However I never made a second account, because the rules said you are only allowed one, so I don't know whether you could merge two accounts.

I'm not one of the "official" folk, but I would assume that would be an Admin only type thing as they are the only ones who can delete or merge pages. Don't know if user pages can be merged but worth a shot. At the very least they can block the old user id.

You could bring it to their attention by posting on the BugTracking page:
http://fanlore.org/wiki/Fanlore:Bug_Tracking

Looks like you click on the very faint word "Add" under the Search box on the right side of the screen to post your problem. You probably should be logged in and posting under your preferred login to keep it straight.

Or you could email: wiki at transformativeworks dot org

Go ahead and email the list and we'll forward the email to systems. I don't think we've had this come up before and I'm pretty sure we don't have any way to do this from the admin side.

I don't have anything helpful to say, but I'm excited to see that you're working on the wiki. It makes me want to get back to it. :)

I'd been wondering how to do that. Thanks!

Having an editing buddy makes a world of difference! Sometimes I think it would be awesome if we could have a Merlin editing swarm some weekend. They've talked about things along those lines here but I don't think there have been fandom specific ones yet.

Don't worry about it. We'll figure it out. I'm going to ask around to see what we should do for you. I'll be back to you in a few days.

I do not understand Skiffy? What, do you mean the evil channel? Are they showing the second season now?

I was actually very dorkily excited about the Welcome the Newbies party! I was going to do a Follow Friday post and pimp it at [site community profile] dw_community_promo and just before I got your comment I was contemplating starting a "Welcome to Dreamwidth" thread where we'd answer people's questions about how to work OpenID and how to link to LJ usernames and all. I do think it's a good time to have a newbie party because a lot of people are looking for new things to do on Dreamwidth these days.

However, fandom geekery and volunteer work would be a lot of fun too! In addition to a Multishipper Swarm on Fanlore I would love to have discussions of how people are archiving on AO3 (I NEVER GET TIRED OF TALKING ABOUT TAGS) and what they think makes for a healthy LJ/DW comm, like in terms of modding or encouraging participation. What else did you have in mind?

So far the news is that we can't do anything to merge the two accounts. And we really don't delete accounts. I've got one other person to ask, but it's looking like there's not much to be done. And you can just keep using one of the accounts and the other one will just sit there.

I'll let you know if this changes.

Heh. No problem. This was easy.
