OneManga

Anyone have any opinions on OneManga closing and all the recent scanlation news? I've tried to flesh out some of the scanlation articles, but I've never been a big online reader.

There's a variety of opinions represented at fandom_lounge (it's already a reference in the OneManga article at Fanlore, although there's certainly room to expand). [personal profile] inkstone has some discussion in her comments.

[personal profile] general_jinjur and some other staffers have an email thread going...I can send you the rather long email I wrote as part of it if you like.

There's a discussion at Mobileread, which is a non-fannish site devoted to ebooks; they've got a number of different perspectives from what I commonly see in fandom. (Starting with a number of people who predictably say "oh, that's all copyright violation.")

The MR discussion has more speculation than fact, and a tiny bit of history of scanlation; it might be mostly useful as a minor reference link. Anyone who wants to join in the discussion would be welcome, but should be aware that the whole "X is/is not copyright violation" is a hotbutton endless debate/wankfest at MR; joining one side or the other will inspire a dozen responses from avid supporters of the other side.
