When I'm browsing, I often dip into "Television" or "Books". I really don't want that option removed. Especially if it means I have to sift through long alphabetical lists of names of things I don't recognize because they're in a format I'm not interested in. (And no doubt fans of those feel the same way.)
Canon format is meaningful to me, especially when browsing.
