Here is a summary of the April Showers editing chats from April 6th & 14th.
Reference Code:
<ref></ref> for the actual references and <References/> at the end of the page to make the references show up.
Markup:
The Fanlore markup should be the same as the Wikipedia one. Wikipedia has more templates
Quotation Templates:
Moving quotation code to the next line or leave an empty line between the text and quote won't mess up the formatting. The only thing to keep in mind is not to use the quotation code in the same line as something that starts with *
So when using bullet point (*), move the quotation code to the next line.
Content:
Anything "fannish" - a zine, a story, an event, a community, a tern, is appropriate to include on Fanlore. Fannish = media fandom, Gaming fandom, anime fandom.....
Unlike wikipedia, there is no 'notability' requirement at Fanlore.
Identity Protection:
If you're unsure when talking about fandom, use only first names or pseuds.
"For pre-1995 fanworks, the default way to identify an author (or artist or other contributor) is with a first name and last initial." -source
For details, see: Identity Protection
Search function:
Currently, Fanlore's search function is unable to read Japanese texts. This is due to a bug in Sphinx search that's been fixed in later versions that are incompatible with our version of mediawiki.
Instead of the Fanlore search, one can use Google to search within Fanlore (site:fanlore.org) for better results.
Spam:
To combat spammers, new users are blocked from editing for the first four hours after registering.
Please comment if there's any error/omission.
