I realize that I left out an important part of my point, which is that all photos not old enough to be in the public domain should be posted only by consent of the people in the photos.
This includes all the examples, and all the other iterations that boil down, in my opinion to, "We can find a reason to violate these fans' privacy without their permission." There's always a reason to do it, which is why Fanlore would be best served by a firm policy saying, "Ask everyone identifiable, then make people who don't or can't consent unidentifiable, whatever that requires, before posting."
Also, melannen's suggestions about Fanlore archiving images without posting them publicly on the internet are fascinating. The concept of an archive not posted publicly makes me think: ideally we'll own the servers for a very long time -- long enough for the 1968 image to become public domain, perhaps, if OTW makes it as a nonprofit. When the image is public domain, my objections to its being posted will be moot.
