We've posted the Fandoms as Category policy change to the policies section of Fanlore. We'd like to open it up for comment. You can find it here.

We, the wiki committee, don't work in a vacuum and would like your input on this. If possible, We'd like to have the discussion here on Dreamwidth. It's easy to answer questions and respond to comments. If discussion becomes unwieldy, we can schedule a chat in the Fanlore chat room.

This is only the first of several policies we're working on and are planning to put out for comment in the next few months. So, let us know what you think.

It's possible to put categories that don't actually exist on pages. I wonder if it would be any use to allow people to add non-existent fandom categories, and then later if there are enough pages you create the category and all the pages are already linked? Or set a number of pages that have to be created within a fandom before a category is created, so you only have to go back and add cats to 10 or 15 pages?

Maybe some sort of category index like wikipedia has might also be necessary.

That actually might work for smaller fandoms or for new pages. I think we're just going to create the fandoms and the sub-categories that go with the big and medium sized fandoms to start with anyway.

I actually think there is an index or site map now.
