Thanks so much to everyone who contributed to the First Vid challenge! Pages created for this challenge include Hello, Canadian Actor Bingo, and Only Happy When It Rains; check them out, and remember that you can always respond to older challenges even after new ones have been posted — whatever gets us creating, editing, and contributing with joyous abandon!

And speaking of new challenges, I am super excited to announce the next one! It's a new year, and we have a very fitting theme:

Origin Stories

How did you come into fandom? Did someone show you the way in, or did you find fandom via google? When did you enter fandom? What was your first fandom? What does fandom mean to you?

This week, edit your user or fan page to include the story of how you got here and why you stayed.

Feel free to drop a comment letting us know what you've added! You’ve got two weeks; the clock starts now; ready — set — go!

Here are a few resources to help you get started! Take a look around the Fans category page for ideas and inspiration. As a reminder, you can always access your user page by clicking on the link in the upper right hand corner. And finally, here's the Fan profile template; the code is copied below for your convenience!

My userpage already had this information, so I quoted a bit from my userpage on my fanpage! http://fanlore.org/wiki/Kass

I'm not comfortable editing my fanpage, but I've started a userpage to collate some of this information...

What are the appropriate values for the type field? So far, in my unscientific non-random sample, I've seen Fan Writer (and fanwriter), fan artist, zine editor, and Sockpuppet.

I think a list of common types would be much more helpful than a blank field name.

Appropriate values for the "type" field have never been formally established, but the standard practice is to list the types of fan activities the fan is known for, like so: fan writer, fan artist, reccer, podficcer, archivist, community moderator, convention organizer, zine publisher, etc.

I will add a note to the template page here: http://fanlore.org/wiki/Template:FanProfile

I've added a little info to my fan page; I'd actually recently written a post on this very subject, so I mostly just put in a little summary and added a reference link for more info =)
