I (and a few others) are keeping lists of fanzines. In fact we just sent off a message to the Fanlore 'gardeners' on how best to transfer the data to the Wiki.

But I have another question: covers. I am working with The Star Wars Collector's Bible and Star Trekindex to collect cover images from eBay listings. It would be too great an undertaking for one person to upload the covers, but I'd be happy to start sending them to Fanlore for archival purposes (and possibly even uploading). I also have some Due South covers, Starsky & Hutch and Supernatural covers. If there is interest, I can try to collect as many as possible if Fanlore sees a use for them.

I think there might be copyright issues with using images from ebay. I know that the main wikipedia is adamant about rejecting any images without a clear statement of who owns it and what their copy policy is :-(

Speaking as myself, fanlore's guidelines start from the position 'this is fair use.' For those images that are taken from the indexes or from the original seller, cite the source and whatever documentation they have for artist, etc. It's pretty much common sense.

::cough:: Uhm, I'm the committee chair, so I'm the one who usually ends up writing to people; the position of starting from fair use and common sense is where we currently stand. The offical committee mailing list is wiki at transformativeworks dot org, if you have concerns you want to pass by us.

As far as the covers go, we don't actually have anyone designated as the coordinator of historical documents. Pretty much we've left that for individuals to do, so I'd ask on the fanlore community on DW for people interested in helping upload and fill out the documentation for the scans. Posting about it may stir up some conversation, and that's always a good thing.

On the giant list of K/S Zines (http://fanlore.org/wiki/K/s_zines ), some of the zines shown have already had covers scanned. Mary Crawford uploaded the cover for Alien Brothers:
http://fanlore.org/wiki/Alien_Brothers

The details of which are listed here:
http://fanlore.org/wiki/Image:Alienbrothers_small.jpg

The information she gives is:
The cover of "Alien Brothers", the 1987 Kirk/Spock zine. Photo by Mary Crawford, zine from own collection.

If it's more than just a text cover, if there's actual art, then we'd like to know the artist as well.

So for zine covers basically: Name of zine, year published if you have it, artist name if you have it, who took the photo or where it was from (if you have it).
