Two Current Wiki Editing Tools

 Two existing WYSIWYG wiki-editing tools that new users can install to help them learn how to use wiki code. One is for Microsoft Office 2007/2010 and the other is for OpenOffice (which Mac and Linux users can use, as well as PC users who don't own a Word license);

The Word add on is discussed here.  The Open Office add on is here (with a visual tutorial here for another Wiki).

More handy wiki tools posted in this community here.

WYSIWYG Editors, very important! =D

Since I don't want to launch a text programm every time to change/write an article, I tried to install WikEd, which requires to install the Greasemonkey skript and then go to the users:NAME/SKIN.js page (in my case it would be users:extempore/wordpress.js) where you add a small installation code. Only, I can't add any code on that page. (There is an insert field visible, but not accessible.) Does this skript or option have to be enabled by the respective Wikis?

(By the way, some of your links in the post don't work for me.)

Ah, I see, the problem is the Wordpress skin. I switched to Modern and it works (it works in pretty much all skins except Wordpress). Pity that only Wordpress shows the template-provided informations in a box on the right side. But with all the shiny WYSIWYG buttons I feel inspired to edit again! =D

I personally think the lack of a WYSIWYG editor is one of the bigger barriers to bringing new people to Fanlore.

Mmh, the process of having several pages open to collect bits and pieces of code to insert in the document one currently edits is extremely tedious. Having code snippets that are frequently used (like creating reference lists, inserting images or links etc.) converted into handy one-click buttons would make posting and editing a lot faster and easier not only for newbies. Is that something the Wiki creators have to implement? Or can any independent Wiki try to code/add something like that? I'm quite clueless when it comes to Wikis...

Alternatives could be some sort of pop-up with clickable inserts (like with smileys on forums) or having the most important code snippets collected on one site (pop-up?) for easy copy/pasting.
