new templates, new categories

I created some new infobox templates (and categories to go with them). Some of them are in use, some I was unsure about. If you have an opinion on what fields to include, etc., speak now! Or later! But it'll be more work later.

1. Brand-new, never used wiki template, for wiki articles about wikis! (Such as....) Category:Wikis
2. Fanart template, never used. Category:Artworks??
3. Fancomic template, never used. Category:Fan Comics? Or maybe Category:Artworks for now?--I'm not sure how many articles we have.
4. Academic commentary template, for articles about peer-reviewed articles, etc. Used once so far! Category:Academic Commentaries.
5. News Media Commentary template, used once. There was a brief discussion about the wording/scope for this, so the category hasn't been created yet.

You can see newly created categories here.

Queries:

3. Does "fan comics" include cartoons (whether individual or in strip form)?

4. Published only? What about conference papers (such as those given at the ICFA)?

I've been wondering if it would be acceptable to create an infobox that could be used on the articles for the various Forever Knight factions. Although I've tended to use the "Fan Community" infobox, this isn't always appropriate. Factions come in all sorts of flavours. While many follow the original pattern, the term has been widely applied within the fandom, and has been used for jokes and one-off creations, as well as chat groups, support groups, writers' collectives, and...just about anything.

I've just been adding an infobox to the articles in the Forever Knight Wiki. It would need some modification for Fanlore; but it would better cover the various needed topics.

So far, only a relatively small number of articles have been made on Fanlore for the various factions. While not all the ones on the FK Wiki are significant enough to have their own Fanlore article, there are still quite a few to go. If a fandom-specific infobox is permitted, it would be easier to get it made now, before I add more articles that would use it.

Thank you for making the template.

As for unused fields: it's Gaylin who makes our infoboxes, since she knows far more wiki mark-up than I do. Or, more accurately, it used to be only Gaylin; but she isn't very active now, and hasn't been for some while. I therefore cobbled this one together from bits of old ones. (And certainly made at least one mistake.)

I can't, therefore, say for sure what bit of mark-up produces the ability to hide the unused fields. However, looking at the source code in the edit box, I noticed this. If it is familiar to you and not what you want, then I can't help further. The use of other bits of code seems likely to me, though, and clearly different; and this one is quite obscure, but possible.

{{#if:{{{CODE<includeonly>|</includeonly>}}} |

It's located at the beginning of each entry, so that (in the FK Wiki template) the bit for the line where you insert the abbreviation reads:

{{#if:{{{abbrev<includeonly>|</includeonly>}}} |
{{!}}style="background-color: #DDD;"{{!}}'''Abbreviations'''
{{!}}{{{abbrev}}}
{{!}}-
}}

Is that the right bit? It's quite a useful feature, especially when there's a lot you can't fill in.
