Stub September - Fandoms

For this year's Stub September, we have chosen weekly themes to focus on specific types of stubs. However, you are always welcome to work on any stub (or any other article!) at any time.

The first week's theme is fandoms!

There are a number of pages about individual fandoms that need more information. Some of the current stubs include:

and many more! Feel free to browse the stubs, pages that need expansion, and examples wanted categories.

New editor? See the Intro to Fanlore FAQ, Help:Editing pages, and the formatting cheatsheet for the basics of wiki editing.

Please keep in mind that Fanlore is a wiki about fandom, not canon. A very brief overview of the canon is often helpful to give the article some context, but the article should be about how fans engage with or react to the canon. Some ideas to get you started:
  • Where does the fandom hang out? What are popular communities, websites, forums, etc.?
  • What kinds of fanworks does the fandom produce?
  • Are there any topics, themes, or tropes that frequently appear in fanworks?
  • What other kinds of fan activities are common (online and offline)?
  • What are the most popular characters and 'ships?
  • Are there any notable events, controversies, or wanks?
  • How has the fandom changed over time?

See What content should I include in a fandom page? For RPF fandoms, see Help:RPF pages.

For lists of all fandom articles on Fanlore, see Fandoms by Source Text, Category:Fandoms by Canon Type, and Category:Fandoms by Community.

Check back next week for a new theme! If you have any questions, feel free to comment on this post or to email the Fanlore Gardeners.

You are also totally welcome and encouraged to leave comments letting us know about your contributions to the challenge. Happy editing!

I'm so glad you edited the Backsteet Boys page, I was surprised at how empty it was before! I'm sure others will be by to add references and their own experiences, that's the beauty of wikis. But what you have so far is certainly interesting on its own!

I also enjoyed your Hanson edits -- it wasn't ever my fandom but I saw a bit around when I first discovered fandom and it makes me nostalgic :)

Thank you :D I wish I could do for BSB what I've done for the Hanson section!

But yeah, I hope what I've posted triggers some memories for anyone else who was in the early het fandom, and maybe encourages some of the later popslash fans to make sure their side is represented.

...and that anon comment was from me. I don't use DW much, and apparently I haven't set it to stay logged in.
