Hi everyone! I'm going to be posting a new challenge here every two weeks for the rest of 2010. We'll all have two weeks to create Fanlore entries in response to this challenge, and then a new challenge will go live. (Of course, you can always respond to older challenges even once newer ones have been posted, but the idea here is to get us creating and editing wiki pages with joy and abandon.) With no further ado, here's the new challenge -- which will run until September 5 or thereabouts.

The Pink Sparkly Hearts Challenge!

What was the first piece of fanfiction you ever fell in love with? Create a page for it and write about why it is awesome. (If you're not into fic, how about the first vid you ever loved? The first piece of fanart? Insert your fanwork of choice here!) The idea here is to create pages for the fanworks around which you want to draw big pink sparkly hearts. You've got two weeks; the clock starts now; ready -- set -- go!

Does it have to be a well known fic/vid/artwork? Fanlore is heavy on the BNF products; I'm never sure how small name fan I'm allowed to go.

Please do -- I think the rest of us would love pages about lesser known works.

Yeah - I think the only notability requirement is that somebody liked the story/vid/pic enough to put it in! *goes to put in some early TS and, er, Law and Order*

There's a help page for creating articles about fanworks here: http://fanlore.org/wiki/Help:Fanworks

The biweekly challenges look like a great idea. Thanks for taking this initiative. :)

It would never have occurred to me to do this without being prompted. Hmm! *ponders* (And I'll plausibly not get around to it. Still, I am at least thinking about it :))

This is a lovely idea! I'll think on it.

OOH I just thought of what to do. *bounces*

Annotated X-Files FTW! Oh man, I wonder if I actually remember enough about that site to do an entry on it?

ETA: OMG it's STILL UP! \o/

Eeeee!

Okay, I added a stub for one of my favorite filksongs, in the hopes that someone will eventually track down more details about it. It hasn't been recorded anywhere 'cos the author of the books it's based on is C&D-prone, and threatens to sue fanficcers & filkers of her work. (So all my info is based on 20-odd year old memories. Grr.)

This is a neat idea! I have a suggestion for future challenges - maybe you could make some kind of easily copy and pastable meme text (the kind they use for love memes and such) with a link back to Fanlore? I've seen quite a bit of takeup of this on my flist, but in some cases I'm not sure that people even know that it started as a Fanlore thing, they're just taking it as a fannish blog meme. Which, you know, that's fine! And some people will probably always like the idea of the challenges but not want to contribtue to Fanlore. However, maybe if there was some easy-to-paste code that maintained the Fanlore connection it would help to keep directing people this way.

The challenge isn't linked on the Fanlore main page. :(
