It's starting to get down to the wire on rescuing Geocities pages -- I think the purge has already started, given some pages I suddenly can't find -- and there's a staggering amount that hasn't been done yet.

So I thought maybe it would be good to have a post where people could at least leave links to Geocities pages, maybe with a very short description of what they are, so wiki editors would have a starting place. (Links to screencaps of existing pages would also be awesome, so those could be uploaded to Fanlore later, but that would be icing.)

That way, even if not everything gets done, we have a chance of being able to find these pages on the Wayback Machine later -- once we lose the links, we've lost our chance.

I'm already starting to see this:

Here's a fan fiction author site that I am pretty sure won't be moved because the writer doesn't actually exist. It's a pseudonym invented by a group of The X-Files fan fiction writers who, rumor has it, were all staying at the Luxor in Los Vegas, Nevada at the time. RivkaT has claimed one, but she isn't saying who the other writers are. I wasn't around at the time but I have it on good authority that drama ensued when some readers discovered that AnubisLM was not one writer, but was instead a consortium.

Look at the artwork for Sore Luck at the Luxor. Also, maybe it's just a coincidence but all of the wheels on the title page for the site have an "X" on them.

All of the links are even still intact.
I am so depressed now.

Moving on.

How about an an animated gif of Mulder and Scully from 1999? 0r maybe 2000? Or?

There has to be a way to save this stuff. This is from a site called The X-Files Finis Romantics Society, which shut down at the end of season 8, I think, in 2001. There is still a lot of stuff intact there, too, although some of the picture files are already missing. They are on wayback, though.

Then there is The Oncology Ward Fan Fiction Archive, devoted to fic about Special Agent Dana Scully's cancer. All of the links for it are already down but here is the site on wayback. I know a person who is saving the fic from this, but as a novice XF fandom history buff, I really want this saved at Fanlore, too.

It looks like The X-Files fandom might have had its own web address at Geocities? Area 51? Huh.

I would like to help out any way that I could, but I need more direction. I am an internet novice by comparison to most people here, I think.

I will come back with more links later.

If you saw Arduinna's reply to me, up-thread, she lists some of what's needed, so I'm collecting all the links dropped here on this spreadsheet (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AtkQF_DFcuILdGswaXRqdkVfekNLdVNXc0o5YzFVSFE&hl=en), so I can keep track of who I've contacted and what I've screencapped. I'll give editing permission to anyone who wants it.
