It's starting to get down to the wire on rescuing Geocities pages -- I think the purge has already started, given some pages I suddenly can't find -- and there's a staggering amount that hasn't been done yet.

So I thought maybe it would be good to have a post where people could at least leave links to Geocities pages, maybe with a very short description of what they are, so wiki editors would have a starting place. (Links to screencaps of existing pages would also be awesome, so those could be uploaded to Fanlore later, but that would be icing.)

That way, even if not everything gets done, we have a chance of being able to find these pages on the Wayback Machine later -- once we lose the links, we've lost our chance.

I'm already starting to see this:

screencap of a Yahoo - Page Not Found page

I am having someone screen capture all of these sites. I hope I can learn how to make pages for them. (:

I think the fic for this is being saved.

This site is going to be moved! (Go me!)

If IOHO goes down I will mourn forever. I don't suppose you'd like to beg the site owners to move it for me?

http://www.geocities.com/museans/museans/Impressionism.html This site is looking very wonky. Maybe it's me?

This site isn't moving as it turns out, it is staying at Yahoo as it is already a paid site.

It would be nice to find an earlier version of this one that didn't proclaim how out of date it is, but I guess that's part of history, too. The fic is being archived elsewhere.

I think this one is being moved, too.

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Omega/1440/raiders1.html This is one of MaybeAmanda's sites. Ask her if she is moving them, and if she isn't screencap them to death. All of them are amazing and will be a huge loss if they disappear. If she isn't moving it and moving IOHO, I will die, I swear, I will.

So many of the Skinner sites are already gone. Am making a mental note to look for them on wayback.

This site seems like inspired lunacy.

I need to find a copy of the old Muldertorture site to go with the Skinner torture site.

This is a priority because no one but me is going to try to document or save it. No one will admit publicly to even reading them let alone being one.

http://www.geocities.com/workingstiffsfanfic/
This is another site that is a huge priority, to screencap, to save the content in any way that we can. There is a lot of history on this site.

This site is another priority for me. One of the site's owners is a friend and I would try to save it save it for that reason alone. Also, there are just not enough funny stories in XF fandom.

The other thing I have been doing is putting the sites in the wayback machine to see if there is already a good crawl for it, if not, I put it in the queue to be redone. That is a tedious task.

So that isn't so bad, right? Then I have to look at the author sites. Next week, maybe?

After that I thought I might work on some Buffy sites. Not my fandom but I know where there are a lot of links on geocities.

Hi,

I am the webmaster of the NewsRadio FanFic Archive hosted at the Geocities Television City neighborhood (
http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Lot/2701/). I have already taken liberties to preserve my page by submitting it for inclusion in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine Geocities Preservation sweep, and I've copied it to Angelfire (http://newsradiofanfic.angelfire.com/) so that I may continue to update it in the future. Please feel free to document my fanfic site as you see fit, since the stories therein constitute an important part of television fanfic history, and all contributing authors deserve to have their work preserved for posterity.

Sincerely,

-Dale Dassel
