What the Wiki committee did in March
The Wiki committee is very happy to welcome three new staffers! Highlander_II, SoyAlex, and Squidgie joined us in our latest round of recruitment.
The Wiki committee is very happy to welcome three new staffers! Highlander_II, SoyAlex, and Squidgie joined us in our latest round of recruitment.
- "I'm Highlander II - feel free to shorten it to H2 - and I've been working with the OTW since way back at the beginning when I started as part of the testing crew for AO3. I've also wrangled feedback, dabbled in support for about 3 tickets when that team started up and been part of the Tag Wranglers since it started. I'm currently on the Tag Wrangling staff. And I'm branching out beyond the AO3 part of the Org by tossing myself into wiki. =)"
- SoyAlex: "I'm an admin office manager in a PR agency who makes sure graphic designers and fed and watered and armed in post-its. I stumbled onto Fanlore, got tricked by MPH into becoming a gardener and then decided this is awesome I want more. Just in time for wiki recruitment. It was fate."
- "My name's Walter, but I have gone by Squidgie (or SquidgiePDX) since about 1993. The nickname stems from me being a founding member of the Duchovniks, an X-Files/David Duchovny fan group way back just before the Internet took off to become mainstream. I founded and have run Squidge.org (and all the subsequent websites like Peja's WWOMB and a bunch of mailing lists) since 1994. You could say that fandom is a huge part of my life. I'm a general nerd (and I mean that in a good way, not derogatorily at all!), and live in Oregon with my husband (yay for marriage equality!) and two cats."
The committee also has a new Board liaison, Soledad Griffin. We'll do our best to utilize her experience as chair of Internationalization & Outreach.
In addition to recruitment, we prepared for April Showers, a month-long event involving both Fanlore and AO3 during which various fandoms will be highlighted, To kick off the challenge, we will have an editing chat this Saturday, April 4, at 4pm UTC. See this post for more details.
Systems also performed some server maintenance in March; Fanlore may experience brief periods of downtime between 8am to 8pm UTC on Friday, April 3rd (when is that in my timezone?) in order to complete it.
Now that we have a bigger team we're busy brainstorming what else we'll be able to do, and we're excited about the possibilities.
